Fairy Tales are an important part in almost all children’s lives. From Cinderella, to Jack and The Beanstalk, fairy tales bring joy and imagination, as well as stay with kids all through their lives. Today, kids are read new, more friendly versions of these once dark, twisted stories, in hopes to bring them day to day joy. The fairy tales that people are read as kids tend to stick with them as the grow up  into adulthood. Although these stories were once very dark and incorporated very questionable ideas, kids are now told improved, altered versions of these stories that are more kid friendly to improve their imagination and give ideas of what life could be like. Fairy tales told now to kids are good, as they have unique, over-exaggerated story lines and ideas that bring happiness to children, because of this, they should continue to be told to kids.

For ELA we had do create six word memoirs that tell stories about us. We made a list of 50 things about us then incorporate them into our memoirs. I used an app called Notegraphy to put the memoirs into these cool designs. These may look like sentences, but memoirs and sentences are different in the way that memoirs have to tell stories. They are actually quite hard to create because, for example, I really like a basketball game, is not a memoir, but, basketball’s my game, winnings my aim, is a memoir because it tells a story. Anyways, enjoy the memoirs!

 

In Ela 9 we had the task of reading a novel, then choosing between creating a new book jacket, or making a periodic table for the characters in our book. I’ve read Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix, By J.K. Rowling.  This book series is about a boy named Harry Potter, going to a school, after learning he’s a wizard. This school is called Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Once Harry goes tp the school he encounters several problems involving the world of magic. Along the way, he meets his best friends, Ron and Hermione, to accompany him on his journeys.   After completing the reading, I chose to draw a new book jacket for the book. I based it around snakes and the eye of the snake. I did this because, in the book, Harry has visions, inside Voldemort’s mind. Seen as Voldemort is a parseltongue (has the ability to speak to snakes), I thought, what better way to represent this by basing my cover around snakes.

Romeo + Juliet Personal Response

Romeo + Juliet, a film co-produced by Baz Luhrmann, Gabriella Martinelli and Craig Pearce, is a 1996 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. This movie is based on the 1599 version of The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Romeo + Juliet has taken quite a creative take on it, in this version it is very modern time. They use guns, cars, and very modern clothing. They also use old English with American accents which is a unique feature the director chose.

Personally I didn’t enjoy then film. I feel this way for a few reasons. For one, it was difficult to understand the actors in the film. Sometimes they would be very quiet so you can hear them, other times they would be too loud so you can’t understand them. With this I feel the decision to make them use old English was creative but made it very hard to understand.

Another reason I didn’t enjoy the film was because of the transitions from place to place. I think that the transitions were pretty rough. One moment they would be in one place, the next, they would be in a completely different place, without warning. I think this was one of the decisions the director wanted but I think it just wasn’t necessary and added a lot of confusion.

In the film they also left out a lot of key things from William Shakespeare’s original play. Like the fact that Paris never died. This was a key part in the play feel because from what I know, the death of Paris is one of the main reasons the families came together. Another main part is that they left out the letter Romeo was going to send his family after he killed himself. Originally he was going to send a letter to his family telling them about the marriage, and why he did what he did.

This day has been filled with terror, rage, and loss. All I have wanted was for peace between the Capulets and the Montagues. Today when I tried to make peace, things only got worse. I tried to calm down Tybalt, but it ended in my dear friend, Mercutio’s death. I was so caught up in anger and rage, that I had slain Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin. I fear what is going to happen to me now. I have just killed someone of a family I had just been married into,  because of a stupid feud between our families. Better yet, Juliet, my wife, will find out how Tybalt died. After us only being married for an hour, I have already disrespected her family.

I don’t know how to come back from this. I don’t know if Juliet will forgive me. I have already lost so much, my home, my family, my friend, but I fear I will lose much more. I fear I may lose Juliet. I’m sure she won’t forgive me, who would. For it was my fault Mercutio and Tybalt have fallen. Everything bad that has happened today was my fault. Now, only an hour after getting married I’ve upset everyone. But most of all I’ve upset Juliet. I don’t know if she can forgive me, I wouldn’t forgive myself….so why would she?

I was hoping for the future to hold fortunes but now, I’m not so sure. I was hoping for our families to come together and solve our differences. I was hoping for finally some peace in Verona. But now with what I have done, I don’t know what will happen.  I don’t know if I will ever see Juliet again, as much as I desire too, I don’t know if she’ll want to see me. With that, I don’t know what my consequences will be for killing Tybalt. Will I even be able to see Benvolio again? Only time will tell what awaits me.

What will my family think of me? Will they still love me? What will the Capulets think of me? What will Verona think of me? But most what will the Juliet think of me? Will she love me again? Did Juliet ever love me? I may never know. I don’t know if I will be able to live with myself, knowing that Juliet doesn’t love. With everyone in Verona maybe I shall go into hiding until everyone forgets. Will anyone forget? What will the Prince have to do with it?

I don’t know what to do. I am still unaware if I have a punishment. I’m still processing what has just happened, and just after marrying the love of my life, I ruined it. Now I just have to wait to hear what the prince has for me and I have to wait to see what Juliet thinks of me. I do fear that Juliet may not forgive me, after all, if Juliet can’t forgive me for killing Tybalt, would anyone forgive me?

 

I have read the book Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, Written by J.K Rowling. Harry Potter has just started his second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are facing evil once again, with something going around the school petrifying people.
This book is a really great book because It can go from funny to serious, to all out fascinating. Like in the original Harry potter, Harry is at his Aunt and Uncles for summer break with his cousin, Dudley, who all treat him like a worthless nobody because they are embarrassed by him being a wizard. The story leads to his best friend Ron coming to take him to his house in a flying car. At Ron’s Harry has an amazing time. He gets to work on his Hogwarts homework. He gets to spend time with other wizards and is overall happy he is back in the wizard world.
Once the time comes to go to Hogwarts he can’t get into the train station. With this, he and Ron decided to take the flying car and break the rule of underage wizards. He and Ron go to Hogwarts and this is where I think it gets interesting. People over the course of the year get petrified from something evil lurking the school. Harry, Ron and Hermione are taken on a wild adventure to find out what’s going on around the school. On this adventure, they find plenty of clues like the chamber has been open, to a mysterious diary.
In my opinion, I love this book. It has a fantasy, humour and is just all around a good book for a Harry potter fan. I think J.K. Rowling has done an excellent job on the classic Harry Potter because of the style as well. It has all things Harry potter should have.
I just love the Harry Potter Stories. They make me want to make predictions about the ending, like if Harry Potter finds the evil, or just what ends up happening. J.K Rowling is just overall a great author if you are looking for a fantasy to read I would recommend Harry Potter because I rate this a 4 out of 5.
